Who doesn’t love a big juicy beef burger. It’s the ultimate go to fast food. These burgers are homemade and a hearty comfort food for these dark winter evenings without having all the calories… unlike a takeaway burger!!!
I’ve served these spicy burgers with sweet potato wedges and a chilli Mayo sauce.
What you’ll need to make the burgers:
- 1lb mince beef
- 1/2 tsp crushed chilli
- 1tsp cumin
- 1tbsp thyme
- 2tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- Wholemeal burger buns
What you’ll need to make the wedges:
- 2 large sweet potatoes
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- Sea salt & black pepper
In a bowl, mix the beef, chilli, cumin, thyme & 2 tbsp oil. Rub all ingredients together and shape into 3 chunky burgers. (You can also make 4 smaller burgers) Cover and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.
While the burgers are chilling, prepare the potatoes by cutting the ends off, giving them a scrub (no need to peel) Cut them into chunky wedges and place on a baking tray.
Drizzle with 2 tbsp oil and sprinkle with paprika, sea salt & pepper. Roast in the oven for 20 minutes, turning halfway through.
Grill the burgers under a medium heat for approx 15 minutes turning halfway through.
Lightly toast the burger buns under the grill or in the toaster.
Serve with lettuce, tomatoe, onion & chilli Mayo!
How to make the chilli Mayo:
Simply mix together a dollop of lighter than light Mayo with a dash of cayenne pepper (franks hot sauce)
